Opening Hours:
Our current opening hours will be stated on this website and on our Facebook page. To visit the pottery outside these hours please contact Rosie as detailed above.
Pottery Painting:
The price for painting depends on the item chosen, each piece is individually priced and includes paint, glazing and firing.
There is a Studio Fee which includes use of studio and equipment for up to 2 hours this is charged per visit to the Workshop. For larger items you may require a 2nd visit to complete your item. Or if you are returning to paint pots you have made at a previous session our fee is £10.
We can hold a ‘work in progress’ for 4 weeks from the start date of painting.
Parsons Pottery will give instructions on how to use the paints but cannot accept responsibility for results where guidelines have not been followed.
Pottery staff are available to give advice on painting items but may not be able to correct painting mistakes.
Pottery items are fragile and broken pottery is extremely sharp. Any breakages will be charged at the full shelf price.
When painting is complete, the item will be left at the Pottery workshop for glazing and firing. Workshop staff will give an estimated date for collection. This is normally 3 to 10 days from the day painting is completed. The estimated date cannot be guaranteed for completion due to the firing process and nature of the product; a degree of flexibility may be required.
Throwing
We will supply you with an apron and other protective equipment where appropriate. Please wear clothes you won’t mind getting messy. No loose jewellery please and long hair to be tied back. We are not liable for any damage that occurs to clothing. Please note long nails can be a hindrance to the throwing process.
Any pots made on the potters wheel and can take 4-6 weeks to dry, then be biscuit fired and glaze fired. Occasionally this can take longer due to firing schedules and unforeseen circumstances.
Glaze firing and our Kiln:
We try our best to ensure that the creative journey you take with us is fun and enjoyable. The final part of the journey involves the glazing and firing of your pottery. Sadly, this is not an exact science, and the kiln is sometimes unpredictable. While we strive for perfection it doesn’t happen all the time, particularly as these are hand-produced crafts.
Glaze spotting can occur as well as things that look like brick dust on the items. Please be aware that although we try to control for these events it is not always possible. It can be the charm but also the frustration of working with ceramics. Sometimes, if we feel it is safe to do so, we will re-fire the pottery to try to fix glazing issues. In the unlikely event of your pottery breaking or cracking in the kiln we will of course offer compensation by way of a replacement voucher.
Collections:
As our storage space is limited the glazed and fired pottery will be kept for 8 weeks from the date of firing. If have not collected within that time, or you do not contact us, you risk the pieces being disposed of.
Parsons Pottery cannot take responsibility for how items are handled and used after collection from the premises, pottery is fragile and may be damaged if misused.
Parsons Pottery can advise on the care and use of painted and glazed items.
